ICTs in English Learning and Teaching
In
the article entitled ‘ICTs in English Learning and Teaching by Drigas and Charami,
I am aware that using technology in the English language learning provide
improvement in the language skills such as reading, speaking, listening and
writing despite the lacks in professional training. In my opinion, technology
provides motivation to language learners, engages students to the language lesson
and have access to different method of learning.
First
and foremost, technology provides motivation to language learners as they are
actively involved in the learning process. In my opinion, as learners involved
in activities during the language lesson, they are more enthusiastic in
learning and participate in the lesson. Technology offers various tools for
educators in motivating students to contribute to the learning process such as,
podcasts and video making tasks.
Furthermore,
technology also engages students to the language lesson. In certain cases,
learning the second language could be tedious to those students who could not
understand the English language. In my opinion, student will gradually lost
interest in learning the English language. However using technology may draw
their attention to the lesson and motivate learners to engage in the language lesson. For
examples, use digital stories in reading class and showing video on certain part of the lesson.
Utilizing technology
in the English learning may provide students with access to different method of
learning such as watching video, completing online language games and online tasks. As far as I can remember,
being a language learner myself, I prefer different method of learning as it enhances
the retention of my knowledge.
In
short, technology could enhance students’ language skills as it provides motivation
to language learners engages students to the language lesson and have access to
different method of learning. Advanced technology will make it possible for the
education field to develop students language skills.
